STAT Service

Gamma-Dynacare provides STAT Service for results needed urgently (potential medical emergencies). If you have requested several tests on a single requisition and not all of the tests are STAT, please indicate clearly which of the tests are required STAT. Our STAT Service is available seven days a week in the Toronto area and from Monday to Friday in the London, Ottawa and Windsor areas. In accordance with the guidelines adopted by the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories, STAT Service is available for the following tests:

Calcium
CBC
Chloride
Creatinine
Glucose
INR (PT)
Malaria
Neonatal bilirubin
Potassium
PTT
Sodium
Urea (BUN)

Every effort will be made to have results of STAT tests phoned or faxed by our Customer Service Department to the requisitioning clinician within eight hours of sample collection. Please provide an alternate telephone or pager number on the OHIP laboratory requisition indicating where you can be reached in case the office or clinic closes before results can be communicated. If you require a STAT test that is not listed above, please call Customer Service, as we can make certain exceptions when necessary. Examples of these exceptions are:

Phenobarbital
Phenytoin
Salicylate
Theophylline
Valproate

Please note that in a few communities, we are unable to provide STAT service. Please check service availability in your area by contacting the centre closest to you.

ASAP Testing

ASAP testing means that the requested test(s) will be performed expeditiously but not necessarily immediately and the results will be phoned or faxed to you within 24 hours of sample collection. This category of service is available on the STAT tests listed and on all routine tests that we perform daily. Most of these results would in any case be back to you within 24 hours, but an ASAP request is an added assurance to you in cases of clinical necessity. Please be sure to indicate ASAP on the requisition and provide a contact number for you or your designate to receive the results.
